Quick Overview

The History of billiards is long and very rich. The game has been played by kings and commoners, presidents, gentlemen, and ladies alike. It evolved from a lawn game similar to the croquet played during the 15th century in France. Play moved indoors to a wooden table with green cloth to simulate grass, and a simple border was placed around the edges.

The term "billiard" is derived from French, either from the word "billart", one of the wooden sticks, or "bille", a ball.

The two main varieties of billiard are Carom, or Carambole, in which the table is bounded completely by cushions, and Pool, played on a table with six pockets.

Eight-Ball, the most popular cue sport, was invented shortly after 1900.

Dunhill Eight Ball Limited Edition Pipe has been created in 2009 to celebrate the Noble Game of Billiards.

The pipe is a Group 3 size and its shape reminds of a billiard ball. It is finished in a polished black Dress finish and is fitted with a Sterling Silver army mount decorated with the engraving "Eight Ball". The Cumberland mouthpiece is shaped like a billiard cue.

The accompanying Cumberland and Sterling Silver tamper is a miniature version of a billiard rake.

The pipe is housed in a special book-style presentation case shaped like a pool table, including the green cloth and the six pockets.

The pipe is limited to only 100 individually numbered pieces, and comes in the original presentation box and outer box, complete with all paperwork.
